THE HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND COUNTRY STUDIES

The Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Country Studies was founded in 2005.

Since then the Department has provided teaching of foreign languages (English and German) ​​for professional communication in accordance with the European standards of language proficiency and “The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” (CEFR) for the students of the educational programs: 242 – “Tourism”, “Tourism. Project and Grant Management”; 241 – “Hotel and Restaurant Business”, “Resort Business”, “International Hotel Business”; 028 – “Management of Socio-Cultural Activity”.

In 2005-2022 the Department of Foreign Languages and Country Studies was headed by PhD (Philology), Associate Professor Vasyl Uhryniuk.

Since June 2022, PhD (Psychology), Associate Professor Halyna Apelt has been the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Country Studies.

At present, the Department staff includes 6 associate professors and one senior lecturer: 3 of them are PhDs in Philology, 2 – PhDs in Pedagogy, 1 – PhD in Psychology.

The Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Country Studies cooperates with the world’s leading publishing houses of foreign literature of educational and methodological content (Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Macmillan Education, Heinle Cengage Learning, Pearson Longman Education) providing students and teachers with foreign language textbooks and manuals for all the language proficiency levels.

Besides, the Department collaborates with the British Council, which enables the support of national and international cooperation with the institutions involved in the improvement of teaching and assessment methods in the field of teaching foreign languages ​​and the development and use of learning tools, particularly multimedia materials.

The teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Country Studies are the current members of the All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ATFL Ukraine) and systematically take internships in the universities of the USA, Germany and Poland.

In 2009-2011, the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Country Studies carried out the project “Distance Education in Tourism” under the EU programme “Tempus”;

In 2022 – participated in the international project “Gates to the Gorgans”.

The teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Country Studies and students of the Faculty of Tourism are active and creative in public life, act as organizers and participants of seminars, conferences, festivals and other events for youth conducted by Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the Faculty of Tourism and public organizations. The Department of Foreign Languages and Country Studies and students of the Faculty of Tourism participate in cultural and educational events, concerts, exhibitions, and enjoy travelling and healthy recreation.
